Wild Pig

The Wild Pig is one of the brands created by Gabriel Meffre winery. The winery produces wines from the Rhone Valley and from the Languedoc. Founded in 1936, Gabriel Meffre is now a major player in the French wine industry, producing premium wines from both regions.e

The Wild Pig range of wines are made from grapes grown in the Languedoc region of southern France. The region stretches from the banks of the Rhone River in the East to the city of Carcassone in the West, and from the first foothills of the Massif Central mountains in the North to the Mediterranean coast in the South.

The Languedoc is the oldest wine producing region in France. It benefits from a hot climate, ideal for growing vines and making wines that are fruity in character with intense aromas.

The story of the Wild Pig has its origins in the vineyards where running into a wild pig is by no means a rare experience. Each year as the harvest draws near, these animals and their voracious appetite drive the grapegrowers crazy. While visiting his grapegrower partners and their vineyards Gabriel Meffre’s Oenologist had often come across these pigs.

However, one stood out in particular – Greta – who was very cunning and stubborn and consumed more grapes than any other pig. Using various strategies Gabriel Meffre managed to eventually foil Greta and her mischievousness and keep the best grapes for the wines using them in the wines which now honour Greta.

After 15 years of growth the Wild Pig Story has turned into a marvellous adventure. The Wild Pig has a wide range of varietals wines to suit most tastes. The common style which unites these diverse varietals is a generosity of fruit – intense, fresh, fruit aromas. This is balanced with a clean crisp acidity and in the case of the Reds, enriched with light tannins
